As a mid-level back-end developer, you will strengthen the business applications team of a Flemish public-sector organisation and contribute to a large ongoing project. You will build secure, scalable REST APIs in C# and ASP.NET Core within a modular architecture.
Within the organisation, the IT department is responsible for the management and support of all IT and technology-related matters.
As a back-end developer, you will strengthen the development unit within the business applications team (development and application management) and contribute to a large project that is currently under way.
Because you will be working in a police environment, you will undergo a security screening after the selection process. You will receive all the relevant information in due course.
As a back-end developer (C#/.NET), you are responsible for developing, extending and maintaining high-performing, secure and scalable back-end functionality within our C#/ASP.NET Core architecture.
You work within a modular architecture in which generic functionality is housed in shared libraries that are reused across different applications. You also develop application-specific and domain-specific functionality.
You translate functional requirements into clear data models, services and APIs, and ensure that data is made available to the front end in a consistent and usable way. In doing so, you work closely with front-end developers on API contracts and data models.
What you do
- You develop and maintain back-end functionality in C# and ASP.NET Core.
- You design, build and maintain REST APIs.
- You set up and maintain data models and data processing using Entity Framework Core and MSSQL.
- You integrate and consume internal and external APIs.
- You convert external data into usable data models for the application.
- You build robust back-end functionality that correctly handles erroneous, incomplete or unexpected input, applying secure software development principles, including input validation, error handling and relevant OWASP guidelines.
- You write and maintain unit and integration tests, and you test, debug and resolve technical issues.
- You monitor and optimise performance, stability, security and code quality.
- You document code, APIs and key technical decisions.
In addition
- You contribute to the further development and improvement of the modular back-end architecture.
- You contribute to the further standardisation and reusability of shared components.
- You carry out and take part in code reviews.
- You help shape architectural and technical decisions.
- You integrate Elasticsearch for search functionality.
- You use Elastic APM for tracing and monitoring.
- You implement and maintain background processes and scheduled tasks, for example using Hangfire.
- You work within the existing GitLab CI/CD environment and contribute to deployment to Kubernetes.
