Tech Lead Java – Flemish government institution

Freelance East Flanders Senior

As tech lead at a Flemish government institution, you coach an agile team of up to 5 developers and create technical designs in a modern Java/Spring stack with geodata applications such as PostGIS. Will you help the organisation grow as a new partner and soil contamination are added to its scope?

The organisation is a partnership within the Flemish government between several Flemish government agencies. Together, they manage and provide access to data and information about the subsurface and soil in Flanders.

The organisation is expanding with a new partner and the theme of soil contamination and soil management. As tech lead, you ensure that the growing IT team handles this additional complexity and the partners' requirements smoothly.

What you bring:

  • At least 10 years of experience in development projects, including at least 5 years as designer and technical lead of projects with total budgets above 250,000 euros.
  • Knowledge and application of the agile development methodology.
  • Very good knowledge of ITIL and the relevant core processes (including configuration management and change management).

You take on a role in the organisation's development team, which works in an agile way on the organisation's premises.

  • You take part in and/or provide input for the sprint review, in which the results are evaluated and a new planning is agreed according to the priorities set by the organisation.
  • You take part in and/or provide input for the sprint planning.
  • You take part in and/or provide input for the daily stand-up with the entire development team.
  • You create technical designs yourself and direct technical designers.
  • You lead and coach a development team of up to 5 developers.
  • You introduce the agile development methodology in development projects and lead its application.

You will join an agile development team that works with a modern Java/Spring stack and geodata applications including PostGIS, Geomajas and D3. Demonstrable knowledge of the technologies below is an asset.
